You start with no money, you can’t afford anything, the board is on fire, an orange orangutan is pushing the world towards WW3 and everything seems to be your fault

Most of us start with negative money to the tune of tens to hundreds of thousands. On a monopoly gameboard, we’d start at like -100M.

Or the alternate version of the story, where you grew up making 3x the hourly wages of people just a decade older than you (despite almost no inflation), had parents willing to let you move home after college, got to enjoy the best toys, tools, and cars in the history of mankind, and made yourselves susceptible to marketing and stereotypes by putting all of your personal information on multiple websites, giving marketers and bullies everythin they could ever need to own you. And the resultant stress and time consumption eats up so much of your time and well-being, you don’t have time for anything else.

That’s the cynical version, but it’s not wrong. But I have to be cynical, I’m a Gen Xer.

But I think we can all agree on this idea: Boomers, am I right?!

I’m less nervous about global destruction now that the Korea situation seems to be simmering down. As for Iran:

Hoping to maintain a truncated agreement, the European leaders asked Iran to “show restraint.” They also asked Trump and the United States “to avoid taking action which obstructs its full implementation by all other parties to the deal.”

You forgot the part where they buy a home for cheap in the 80's or 90's and the value of the home climbs 300% in last 10 years.

“I thought that it is already common consensus that all of this is because you didn’t walk 20 miles to school, up hill, in the snow....... You know where this goes. Now stop waxing your beard and get a real job! Like your dad did, when everybody was hiring, and offering pension plans, and medical insurance, and if you did reasonably well you could stay there forever and make rank within the company. Homes were cheaper too? Booohoooo, cry me a river.

Now get on serving my fast food meal at your second job, which you have to do because your 10th internship pays zilch, but it’s your platform to get hired fo’ shizzle this time.”

I wonder what will happen when baby boomers stop voting in such large droves.

The obvious answer to our current social and economical problems is to start euthanizing old people when they go to the doctors.

“What’s that Ethel, you’re not feeling too well? Why don’t you have a seat next to my KEVORKIAN DEATH MACHINE. You’ll be feeling better shortly.”

Seriously. My house cost 6x as much as the house my parents bought around the same age. Their first house was even more depressing, but they were able to buy it a decade earlier in their life because they made so much relative to housing prices.

The difference is insane.

When my parents were in their early 20's, they had a ~30k mortgage. When I was in my early 20's, I had ~30k in student loans. :/

My parents did that in 1982...borrowed 75% of the value of the house just to buy it at 13% per annum...which then went up to 18% per annum...took them 20 years and many thousands of extra work hours to break even. So it hasn’t all been roses...

None of us are immune from tinted spectacles and delusions of generational superiority. We are all just stupid humans with slightly different perspectives.

I’ve been hearing this same scree for literally 20 years. During those 2 decades, we’ve had both the dot com boom and the great recession, along with the rebound where unemployment’s at under 4%. If your situation doesn’t change in 20 years, maybe you should do something about it.

Then Gen-Xers get shit on, while the iGen rants online about them and how they’re the fault of their shitty jobs.
